Amikacina

Benefits

  • Similar action to gentamicin.
  • Amikacin resists known aminoglycoside inactivating enzymes that affect gentamicin, tobramycin, and kanamycin.
  • Several strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus, and Serratia resistant to gentamicin are sensitive to amikacin

Description:

Broad spectrum antibiotic. Amikacin is a semisynthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from kanamycin.

Composition:

Each 100 ml contains:

Amikacin 21 g

Indications:

Indicated in horses, dogs and cats, in all respiratory, digestive, genitourinary and osteoarticular infections caused by Gram + and Gram - bacteria, sensitive to amikacin.

Therapeutic Action:

Amikacin's spectrum of action includes numerous Gram- aerobes and some Gram+ aerobes.
Gram negatives: Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Proteus species (indole-positive and indole-negative), Pseudomonas, Salmonella, Enterobacter, Serratia and Shigella.
Gram positives: Penicillinase-producing and non-producing Staphylococcus species, including methicillin-resistant strains. However, amikacin is not very active against other gram positives: Streptococcus pyogenes, enterococci and Streptococcus pneumoniae (Diplococcus pneumoniae).
Amikacin resists degradation caused by most aminoglycoside inactivating enzymes known to affect gentamicin, tobramycin, and kanamycin. Several strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus, and Serratia resistant to gentamicin are sensitive to amikacin.

Dosage and Administration:
