Description:

Antiulcer and gastric anti-secretory agent, proton pump inhibitor.

Composition:

Omeprazole base 37 g

Indications:

Prevention and treatment of horse gastric ulcers. Omepraz 37% is an antisecretory, antiulserose indicated for the treatment of esophagitis, erosive gastritis, gastroduodenal ulcers, and the prevention and treatment of stomach erosions caused by ulcerogenic drugs.

Therapeutic Action:

Omeprazole potently inhibits gastric secretion in animals and humans. It irreversibly blocks the metabolic activity of the proton pump on the luminal surface, resulting in a potent and long-lasting inhibition of acid secretion. The drug acts by non-competitive inhibition of the activity of H+, K+ -adenosine triphosphatase in the secretory membrane of the parietal cell, blocking the production of hydrogen ions.

Omeprazole inhibits basal acid secretion and secondary to stimuli. Another of the drug's actions is the inhibition of cytochrome P-450 at the liver level and the mixed function of the oxidative system. Inhibition of acid secretion at the gastric level persists Even after the drug disappears from the plasma. Omeprazole produces only a small decrease in the volume of gastric juices and does not alter gastric motility.

Dosage and Administration:

For the treatment of gastric ulcers: administer a 4 mg dose of omeprazole/kg b.w, equivalent to 1.08 g of product per 100 kg b.w. (one measurement Every 100 kg b.w.) once a day, for 4 weeks.

For the prevention of recurrences or the formation of gastric ulcers in healthy Horses during periods in which they are exposed to stressful situations: administer a maintenance dose of 2 mg/kg b.w. equivalent to 1,08 g of product Every 200 kg b.w. (one measurement every 200 kg b.w.) once a day for 4 weeks. Administer once a day, preferably in the morning before feeding.

In foals it can be used from 1 month of age onwards with the same dosage scheme.
